Petrópolis is one of the most popular tourist spots, and it’s just ideal for a day trip from Rio. Located around 70 km (44 miles) away from Rio’s city centre, guests can find calmer street carnival parties. Visit the Imperial Museum, and continue the cultural tour visiting Santos Dumont’s house, the Brazilian who invented the plane. One can also visit the brewery factory Bohemia, founded in 1853, the oldest brewery in Brazil. For those looking for something a little more active can hike and bike in the surrounding mountains.
